For his first collection at Louis Vuitton, Pharrell Williams drew his global audience to the Pont Neuf Bridge in Paris, kicking off his tenure as menswear creative director with a celebrity-studded outdoor show.

In a show that further anchored the LVMH-owned label in popular culture, models walked across a golden runway to live music.

They paraded beaded tracksuits, furry outerwear, and shiny jackets with the label’s signature checkmark pattern, in all colors and sizes, including shades of camouflage.

Crowds flocked to the banks of the Seine River to catch a glimpse of the look, which continued to combine LV’s style with luxury.
“I’m the second black man to have had this experience at the biggest fashion house in the world on the planet,” Williams said in an interview before the show, referring to his job since February.

Williams, 50, best known as the singer and writer of the pop hits “Happy” and “Blurred Lines,” ended months of speculation by filling the shoes of his friend Virgil Abloh, who held the position from March 2018 until his death. were Stay in November 2021.

Abloh was the industry’s top black designer, credited with paving the way for street style and adapting the loose skateboard into high fashion.

Williams said, “My brother Virgil was the first. He did so much for the house and he brought skate culture to this world – as an American black man. It’s a fact that I have to do it too.” Williams said.

Williams was first introduced to the Arnault clan in 2004 to design sunglasses with Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs.

Arnault and his children, who all hold key positions at LVMH, sat front row with Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Kim Kardashian.

“The idea was to create the idea that Louis Vuitton is also an expert in tailoring for the man who wants to be a little more elegant,” Vuitton CEO Pietro Beccari said of his brief to Williams.
