Imran Khan’s petition about the proceedings brought against him starting on May 9 is expected to be heard by the Lahore High Court (LHC). Imran Khan is the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
On May 9, the former prime minister was detained in relation to the Al-Qadir Trust affair. A day after being granted bail by the Islamabad High Court, the PTI leader filed a plea in the Lahore High Court on Saturday out of concern over being detained again in the fresh charges.
In his petition, Khan asked for immunity from detention as well as information about the cases that had been filed against him in light of the nationwide protests that had started after his arrest.
As a result of the police nominating him in several instances, he claimed in his plea that he was being politically victimized and that he ran the prospect of being arrested. The PTI chairman has included the Punjab inspector general and attorney general as defendants in the case.
Last week, Mr. Khan was unexpectedly detained while undergoing biometric testing at the Islamabad High Court (IHC). On orders from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), heavy Rangers forces apprehended the former cricket star and transported him away in a black Rivo.
Following the incident, violence broke out, which proved to be a significant turning point in the nation’s unrest in politics as hundreds of PTI workers and fans rushed to the streets to protest the arrest of their leader.
Workers and police clashed during the nationwide protests, and important infrastructure including General Headquarters and the Lahore Corps Commander House came under attack.
