LONDON – Jemima Goldsmith, a film producer and the ex-wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has voiced her happiness at the Supreme Court’s decision to free Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). On Tuesday, Rangers officers detained the PTI leader from the Islamabad High Court’s grounds in accordance with a warrant issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan’s detention was pronounced valid by the Islamabad High Court, which prompted the PTI to request his release before the Supreme Court. The highest court ordered Khan’s immediate release on Thursday after deeming his arrest “illegal”. In response to the SC ruling, Goldsmith, who lives in the UK with her boys, tweeted, “Finally sense has prevailed,” accompanied with a high-five emoji and the flag of Pakistan.

The NAB is presently looking into Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other PTI officials in relation to a deal the PTI administration made with a real estate magnate that is said to have cost the country’s exchequer 190 million pounds.

The defendants are also accused of altering Rs50 billion supplied to the government by the British National Crime Agency (NCA) and obtaining an unauthorised benefit in the shape of more than 458 kanals of land to build Al-Qadir University. When Khan showed up for hearings at the IHC about his bail requests in other instances, he was detained.
